5 lbs. finely ground beef
1/2 c. ketchup
3 heaping tsp. prepared mustard
3 heaping tsp. cream-style horseradish
3 level tsp. Worcestershire sauce
5 heaping tsp. salt
1 c. finely ground onions
1 heaping tsp. MSG
1/4 tsp. black pepper
hamburger buns
Place the ground beef in a kettle or Dutch oven. Combine the ketchup, mustard,
horseradish, Worcestershire sauce and salt in a 1-cup measuring cup. Stir into the beef. Fill the same cup with
warm water and add to the meat mixture. Use the same cup to measure the ground onion; add to the meat mixture.
Stir in the MSG and pepper and cook on low heat, stirring constantly, for 15 minutes, or until the meat is in fine pieces.
Increase the heat slowly until the mixture boils. Boil for 25 minutes, stirring every few minutes to keep the mixture
from sticking. Use a slotted spoon to dip the meat onto the hamburger buns (you may want to have larger than average
hamburger buns on hand to serve Made-Rites on). Serve with pickles, mustard, onions and cheese as desired.
(This mixture also freezes well.)
