2 (1 oz.) squares baking chocolate
1/2 c. water
7 T. butter, divided
1 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. sour milk
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 egg
3 T. cocoa
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
hot coffee or hot water
In a small saucepan combine the baking chocolate, water and 4 T. of the butter. Bring to a boil, stirring
constantly, until the chocolate has melted and is smooth. Remove from the heat and let cool. In a large bowl combine
the flour and sugar. Stir the baking soda into the sour milk and add to the flour mixture. Pour in the chocolate
and add the egg quickly. Stir until well blended and smooth. Pour into a greased 8-inch square baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until the cake tests done. Cool. Melt the remaining 3 T. of the butter with
the cocoa. Stir into the powdered sugar in a medium bowl. Add enough hot coffee or hot water until the mixture
is of spreading consistency. Frost top and sides of the cooled cake.
