1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 1/2 c. sugar, divided
4 c. water
1/2 c. butter
2 c. flour
1 c. milk
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 c. chopped dates or raisins
Make a syrup of the brown sugar, 1 1/2 c. of the sugar, the water and butter by bringing them to a boil.
Pour the syrup into an 8 x 11-inch baking pan. Make a soft dough by combining the flour, the remaining 1 c. of sugar,
the milk, baking powder, walnuts and dates or raisins. Drop by spoonfuls into the hot syrup. Bake at 425 degrees
for 30 minutes. Serves 8.
